This Day in History 1/28
Twenty-six years ago the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded 73 seconds after lift-off, resulting the death of all 7 of it's crew members. One of the astronauts on board was Christa McAuliffe, the first member of the "Teacher in Space Project." Because the first teacher was going into space, many people were watching the launch on television, including most classrooms across the country. Most people would agree that this was one of the biggest tragedies in the history of NASA. Another disaster like this occurred on February 1, 2003 when the Space Shuttle Columbia exploded upon re-entry into the earth's atmosphere, resulting in the deaths of all seven of it's crew members.
